New school gets the go ahead

Warwickshire County Council has been given the green light from the Government to create a new community primary school in Warwick.

The Office of the Schools Adjudicator approved the proposal to amalgamate Woodloes Infant School and Woodloes Junior School in September 2009 to create a single all-through primary school for children aged four to 11 years.

The adjudicator, Mr Alan Parker, concluded that the plan is a “good and appropriate response to the present and future needs of the area”.

The new primary school, with the capacity to admit 60 pupils per year, would be located in one extended and refurbished building based at the current junior school site.

The adjudicator rules on some school organisational issues, land transfer, assets and admission arrangements including school amalgamations.

Phil Astle, Assistant Head of Service - Service Planning, said: “The adjudicator has confirmed that our plan for the new Woodloes Community Primary School is in the best interests of the area.

“We can now move forward with the creation of a new school which is even better placed to take on the challenges of raising standards for primary pupils. It will have greater pre-school provision and expanded school services and provide Woodloes with a truly improved learning environment.”

Currently Woodloes Infant School teaches pupils aged between four and six and is situated on the same site as Woodloes Junior School, which caters for pupils aged from seven to 11.

The plans will also pave the way for Ridgeway School to move from Montague Road to a purpose built facility on the site.
