School set for temporary relocation
Governors at St Andrew’s Benn CofE Primary School in Rugby and Warwickshire County Council have agreed in the interest of pupils’ health and safety to relocate to nearby Rokeby Infant School and the Claremont Children’s Centre site for the remainder of the term.
St Andrew’s Benn was closed last week because it was found that rats had entered the roof space and had been attacking the electrical cable. In this situation the first priority is the health and safety of the children and all who work at the school.
From tomorrow (Tuesday) the school is moving to the former Rokeby Infant School, which is nearby. The two schools will operate separately and have different start and finish times to reduce disruption.
Transport will be provided from St Andrew’s Benn to Rokeby School and the children will be supervised on the buses. All children will resume their education this week.
- Key stage 2 children Years 3 – 6 on Tuesday 2 December at Rokeby Infant School.
- Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 on Wednesday 3 December at Rockeby Infant School.
- Nursery will resume school on Wednesday 3 December at the Claremont Children’s Centre site.
Headteacher Nickie Jones said: “Closing the school has been a difficult decision but I would like to thank the governors, staff, parents, church and local authority representatives for all their support during our relocation.
“Our goal is to continue the children’s learning and give them the stability they enjoy at St Andrew’s Benn in our temporary accommodation at Rokeby Infant School.
“It has been a tremendous effort by everyone and we are looking to make this a positive adventure for the children during which they can continue their learning and prepare for the festive season.”
The pupils will be accommodated in the former Rokeby Infant School, which has been recommissioned for temporary provision.
Chair of Governors Eric Wood said: “The headteacher and all her staff have been working around the clock to prepare the new school site at Rokeby Infant School for our children. We would like to thank the local authority, staff and parents for their magnificent support throughout this process. We are extremely grateful to Alison Stringer, headteacher of Rokeby Primary School and her governors for their partnership and support.”
