‘Stay in Control’ campaign launches
‘Stay in Control’ is the message aimed at young people drinking too much alcohol this Christmas, as part of a major campaign launching in Warwickshire.
From the 1st December hard hitting posters will appear across Warwickshire on billboards, buses, bus shelters, shops, in schools and online, showing young people the consequences that drinking too much alcohol can bring.
This includes generally making a fool of yourself and doing things you might regret. Worst still this could mean having your stomach pumped, Sexually Transmitted Infections, unplanned pregnancies and being involved in an accident or violence.
The aim of the campaign is to encourage young people to ‘Stay in Control’ of what happens to them when they are drinking, so that they don’t leave themselves vulnerable to being attacked or having unprotected sex which they may later regret.
Kate Harker, Joint Commissioning Manager for Warwickshire County Council, said: “We do recognise that young people are drinking alcohol and whilst we wouldn’t encourage it, we have to be aware of the dangers young people might face and help them to stay in control of what happens to them whilst they are drinking.“
Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Families, said: “The aim of this campaign is to reach young people not preach to them and remind them to stay in control of any situation. “
Cllr Richard Hobbs, Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, added: “If young people are aware from an early age of the possible consequences of drinking alcohol, then it will be easier for them to control what happens to them and be in control of their future.”
The campaign is a partnership involving Warwickshire County Councils Children and Young People’s directorate, Warwickshire’s Respect Yourself Campaign and Warwickshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team.
