Pantomania sweeps pupils at Keresley Newland

Pupils from Keresley Newland Primary School near Bedworth are performing a pantomime with a difference this Christmas, thanks to funding from Warwickshire Crimebeat.

Every year the 6 to 11-year-olds take part in ‘Pantomania’ which is written and directed by teacher Jordan Risebrow and the pupils. This year’s performance is based around Cinderella but with an anti-bullying twist.

Warwickshire Crimebeat - a charity funded by the High Sheriff of Warwickshire, supported by the Private Sector and managed by Warwickshire County Council’s ‘Positive about Young People’ scheme – has provided support for the project every year.

Parents and staff will get to see the performance on 10 and 11 December from 6:30pm, or 12 December from 1:30pm.

Mr Risebrow said: “We all know how Cinderella was treated by the ‘ugly sisters’ but we take this to the next level by highlighting the effects of bullying, and more importantly, how to deal with it.

“We think this is a great opportunity for the whole community to get involved with our school, and also acts as a reminder that bullying will not be tolerated.”

Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Families, said: “This is a very creative and engaging way to get across a serious message to both children and parents.

“The staff and pupils have worked very hard on their performance and I am sure it will be very well received.”

Warwickshire Crimebeat is continually looking for groups of Young People to apply for funding. For more information contact Mark Bolton, Warwickshire Crimebeat co-ordinator, on 02476 754174 or email markbolton@warwickshire.gov.uk.
