New crossings in Rugby

Two new Puffin crossings have been installed in Lawford Road in Rugby following requests from local people.

One is based near Pinfold Street and the other one near Campbell Street. Dropped kerbs have also been provided at the junction of Lawford Road and Addison Road.

The crossing near Campbell Street was upgraded from a zebra crossing so that the two new crossings can be linked together to minimise the delay and reduce congestion to the traffic.

The two new Puffin crossings also include dropped kerbs, tactile paving, audible units and tactile units to assist people crossing the road, especially the visually impaired and hearing impaired by informing them when it is safe to cross the road.

Warwickshire County Council designed and supervised the implementation of the crossings and the funding for the crossings was provided as part of planning gain.

County Councillor Doug Hodkinson said: “For many years local residents have pressed for improved facilities along this section of Lawford Road.

"A number of petitions have been collected, many letters written and frequent enquiries have been made at Locality Panel Meetings. The installation of these new crossings will help residents, especially older residents and parents with pushchairs, in crossing such a busy road.”

Gafoor Din, Team Leader of the Traffic Control and Information Systems Team, added: “This is one of many schemes that the county council has implemented over the last twelve months at the request of local residents to improve pedestrian facilities in our county.”
