Warm hearted couple’s minibus appeal

A couple from Bedworth have helped raise £600 towards a minibus that will enable people with learning disabilities to get out and about in their local community.

Anne and Terry Wilks have been married for 46 years and have always been keen to lend their support to raise funds for a variety of community projects in the North Warwickshire town.

The couple who have a niece who used to attend Bedworth Community Support Services, part of Warwickshire County Council’s Service Provision for adults with learning disabilities, wanted to raise funds for the centre after hearing that its minibus was vandalised during the summer.

A social night at Saunders Hall Working Men’s Club featured Irish vocalist Frank McCaffrey and was attended by more than 200 people.

Anne said: "We enjoy putting something back into the community and helping others on our doorstep. We have organised dozens of similar events and have used Saunders Hall on several occasions.”

Claire Batsford, Manager of Bedworth Community Support Services said: "We want to say a big thank you to Anne and Terry we are really grateful for their support, the focus of our service is to support people to be part of their community and the money raised has really boosted our funds to replace the minibus that was vandalised.”
