Improvement to registration services
On the 17th December 2008 the way you register births, deaths and Marriages in Warwickshire will be changing.
Previously life events such as a birth, or a death, had to be registered in the local area where the event occurred. Now families will be able to register a birth or a death that has taken place in Warwickshire at any of the registration offices, excluding Warwick. The legal preliminaries to a civil marriage will no longer be required to be registered in the area where the person getting married lives, but can be registered at any of the main Register Offices in the County.
Registration and Coroners Service Manager, Polly Dickinson said:
“We know that it can be difficult for some people to travel to other parts of the county, especially when they have recently given birth or suffered a bereavement. We are hoping that by providing a more flexible service to our residents, that it will make registering a birth, death or marriage much easier.”
Portfolio Holder for Corporate Services, Councillor Heather Timms said:
“Ease of access is essential for people using registration services, especially in times of bereavement. I am hoping that this change in service will give residents more flexibility when registering a birth, death or marriage, which in turn should improve their experience of using our services.”
There are ten Registration sites in the county - five main offices at Atherstone, Nuneaton, Rugby, Warwick and Stratford register civil marriages and civil partnerships. Births and deaths can be registered at Atherstone, Nuneaton, Rugby, Leamington Spa, Stratford, Southam, Shipston and Alcester and at two outstations in Coleshill and Bedworth. Copy birth, death and marriage certificates can be obtained from Nuneaton, Rugby or Warwick Register Offices.
