County Boys’ new partnership
Warwickshire Boys’ Choir will be in harmony when they perform tonight (Thursday 11 December) in collaboration with a top class local choir.
The group will be singing alongside St Mary’s Boys Choir at a special concert held at 7.30pm on Thursday 11 December at St Mary’s Church in Warwick.
This is the beginning of an exciting partnership between the two choirs who will be taking part in regular joint rehearsals to share expertise and extend their respective repertoires.
The concert marks an important event for the County Boys’ as it is just one year since Garry Jones, former Director of Warwickshire County Council’s Music Service, created the group. The boys will have the chance to celebrate this milestone after the concert.
Garry Jones has retained links with the service and continues to direct the County Boys. He said: “We are really excited to be starting our partnership with the excellent St Mary’s Choirs through our performance this evening. All the boys are looking forward to working together. St Mary’s Girls choir will also be performing and we hope in future that our County Girls Choirs will have a similar partnership event.
“The County Boys’ are well on their way to becoming nationally recognised for their talent. In their first year the boys have received high profile recognition from sterling performances including collaborations with the County Youth Chorale in Banbury and with the famous Boys Choir of New College Oxford. .
“Exciting times are on the horizon for the boys as they prepare for their forthcoming guest appearance at the West Midlands SingUp Celebration Concert at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall in January.”
Warwickshire’s County Boys Choir, the first of its kind in Warwickshire, was formed in November 2007 by Garry Jones, former Director of Warwickshire County Council’s Music Service. Members, aged from 8 to 14 years, were recommended through their schools. Since last year membership has now reached over 80 choristers from across the county, making the group arguably the largest of its type in the country.
