Young people celebrate Firebreak success

A group of young people from the George Elliot School in Nuneaton have been celebrating their success after completing a 10-week action packed training course run by Warwickshire County Council’s Fire & Rescue Service.

‘Firebreak’ is an extremely successful youth education programme run by fire fighters from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Services youth development department.

During the course, the 13 to 16-year-olds took part in a wide range of action-packed activities including road and railway safety, adventure training, fire safety, hose and hydrant drills, and occupational health.

Paul Ingham, Youth Development Officer for Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The passing out parade marks the end of the course but the beginning of continued achievement both inside and outside the school environment.

”Students really enjoy the course and can use the new skills they have learnt here in everyday situations, allowing them to build in confidence.”

Cllr Richard Hobbs, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, said: “Firebreak is part of Warwickshire County Council’s commitment to protecting the community and making it an even safer place to live.
“It provides young people with an opportunity to do something fun but in a structured environment, and the passing out parade highlights a fantastic achievement.”

During the passing out parade, the students gave a demonstration of their work, which was followed by an inspection from Councillors and teachers. Those attending were presented with a Record of Achievement.
