Youngsters have a FLARE for fire fighting
Students, aged between 15 and 16-years-old, have shown off their skills as they complete the Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service youth scheme – FLARE.
The group of students from Polesworth International Language College, Woodlands, Round Oak, Oakwood and North Warwickshire & Hinckley College Pathfinders, carried out their passing out parade last week.
Each participant was given a framed certificate for their commitment to the 16-day course (run over eight weeks) and for proving their team-working capabilities in a range of activities including marching, hose and hydrant training, problem solving, fire safety and first aid to name a few examples.
They also received a record of achievement folder to build up with their certificates and future qualifications to show to potential employers.
Cllr Richard Hobbs, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, said: “The FLARE course helps young people improve communications skills, increase confidence, maintain self-discipline and become a real team-player.
“These are not only fundamental fire-fighting skills but also can be applied to everyday situations. The passing out parade is a fantastic achievement and I congratulate the team for their hard work.”
