Festive country parks
The festive period is well underway and a host of events are on offer at Warwickshire’s country parks to get out and about enjoying the fresh air.
The Christmas Clue Trail is now running at Ryton Pools Country Park and will continue until Sunday, January 4.
Visitors can Follow the trail around the park and answer the clues as they go. A chocolate treat awaits all correct entries, which will also be put into a Grand Prize Draw. Trail sheets available from the Visitor Centre during opening hours. The cost is £1 per trail sheet.
The Christmas Treasure Trail is also now up and running at Kingsbury Water Park and visitors can collect their trail sheet from the Information Centre, during opening hours, then follow the clues, complete the quiz and collect their prize. The cost is £1 per trail sheet. This event runs until Friday, Jan 2.
Meanwhile the Christmas Treasure Trail at Pooley Country Park will run on weekends and during the school holidays over Christmas. Trail sheets are available from the Visitor Centre. The cost is £1 per trail sheet.

Natural Christmas at Kingsbury Water Park
Make a variety of festive decorations from natural materials in time to hang on your Christmas tree or front door. If the weather is good we will go for a short walk to collect materials.
Time: 10.30am to 12.00 noon.

Make a Walking Stick at Pooley Country Park
Learn how to make a walking stick from coppiced hazel and deer antler. All tools and materials provided.

Make a pop-up 3D Christmas card decorating it with natural and man-made materials. For children aged 5 to 12 years who must be accompanied by an adult (no younger siblings can attend).

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Decorations at Ryton Pools Country Park
Have a go at making a special Rudolph decoration for Christmas using lots of sparkling things so his nose will twinkle on Christmas Eve. For children aged 3 to 12 years who must be accompanied by an adult (no younger siblings can attend).

Boxing Day Stroll at Kingsbury Water Park
Come and walk off those Christmas excesses with a gentle stroll around the park. The Old Barn Café will be open for refreshments if required after the walk.

Boxing Day Ramble at Hartshill Hayes Country Park
After all the Christmas festivities, a 4-mile ramble with a Ranger is just what the doctor ordered!
Time: 10.00am to 12.00 noon.

Cost: Adults £1.50, Concessions £1.00, Family £3.50.
Boxing Day Walk at Ryton Pools Country Park
Join a Ranger for a stroll around the park to walk off all that festive food. See what wildlife is around at this time of year.
Time: 1.00pm to 3.00pm.

Cost: Adults £1.50, Concessions £1.00, Family £3.50.
Sunday, December 28 -
Bike Tagging at Kingsbury Water Park
Bring along your new Christmas bike or even your old Penny Farthing for a ride around the park and get it stamped for security. The Police will be here to security tag bikes.
Time: Drop in between10.30am and 2.00pm.

Cost: FREE (usual car parking charge applies).

Natural New Year Calendars at Kingsbury Water Park
Make a 2009 calendar for yourself or as a gift, decorating it with natural materials collected from around the park. For children aged 3 to 12 years who must be accompanied by an adult (no younger siblings can attend).

Meet: The Education Centre.
Cost: £2.50 per child.

Meanwhile the Country Parks 2009 calendar has this week been reduced to just £1.
It depicts scenes from around Warwickshire County Council’s country parks, from Kingsbury in the north to Stratford in the south
Country Parks Visitor Manager Paula Cheesman said: “Not only are our country parks a great place to visit in the winter, we are also offering the chance to pick up a Christmas present. There are some really lovely photos in this year’s calendar, many of which have been taken by our own country park Rangers.”
