Ettington make the top three

Ettington Church of England Primary School has been ranked as one of the top state primary schools in the country by the world renowned Sunday Times.

The school came third in the national newspaper’s top 50, which was published in the recent Parents Power section.

The criteria of the top 50 involved examining trends over the past three years in all core subjects at the end of Key Stage 2. Ettington Primary has had a 100 per cent pass rate at level four and above for the past two years in all subjects, and according to headteacher Rosemary Edwards, pupils have been making good, if not outstanding, progress.

Their Contextual Virtual Added (CVA) score, which measures the attainment from the end of Key Stage 1 to the end of Key Stage 2 is very high. The school is also performing above the national average in all subjects at level five.

Rosemary Edwards said: “An Ofsted inspection in 2007 identified a lack of progress in Key Stage 1 and labelled us ‘satisfactory’. The school is addressing this and standards are starting to rise in Key Stage 1. “

”The staff are a hard working collegiate team, striving to improve provision across the school. The children are motivated and enthusiastic learners, supported by their parents and they fully deserve this accolade.”
