A busy January in country parks

A busy New Year is being planned in Warwickshire’s country parks with a host of events already lined up to offer fresh air and countryside skills.

Here are just a few of the highlights on offer this January:

Saturday 10 January
Creepy Crawly Club at Ryton Pools Country Park

Kingsbury Young Anglers Club at Kingsbury Water Park

Sunday 11 January
Winter Waterfowl for Beginners at Kingsbury Water Park
Discover what birds are about at this time of year on a 2-mile walk around the park and watching from the bird hides.  Please bring binoculars if you have them.
Time: 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Meet: Broomey Croft car park.
Cost: Adults £1.50, Concessions £1.00, Family £3.50.

Sunday 18 January
New Year Stroll at Kingsbury Water Park
Join a Ranger for an afternoon stroll to blow away the winter cobwebs!
Time: 1.00pm to 2.30pm.
Meet: Broomey Croft car park.
Cost: Adults £1.50, Concessions £1.00, Family £3.50.

Snow and Soup Walk at The Stratford Greenway
Even if the snow doesn’t fall, there will be soup!  A 4-mile walk along the former railway line to Milcote and back.
Time: 10.30am to 12.00pm.
Meet: The Greenway car park, Stratford end.
Cost: Adults £2.00, Concessions £1.50 (includes soup and bread roll)

Midwinter at Ufton Fields Nature Reserve
Join a Ranger on this 2-mile walk to learn about the Nature Reserve in winter.
Time: 1.30pm to 3.30pm. 
Meet: Ufton Fields car park. 
Cost: Adults £1.50, Concessions £1.00, Family £3.50. 

Saturday 24 January
Chinese New Year Lanterns at Kingsbury Water Park
It’s the year of the Ox in the Chinese calendar so come along and make a lantern to celebrate this new year.  For children aged 5 to 12 years who must be accompanied by an adult (no younger siblings can attend).
Time: 10.30am to 12.00 noon.
Meet: The Education Centre.
Cost: £2.50 per child.

Sunday 25 January
Bird Watching for Beginners at Kingsbury Water Park
During the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch Weekend, come along to the Education Centre to watch the birds we have in our garden and then make a bird mask to take home.  For children aged 3 to 12 years, who must be accompanied by an adult.
Time: Drop in between 11.00am and 2.00pm.
Meet: The Information Centre.
Cost: £1.50 per child.

Orienteering at Pooley Country Park
Learn how to find your way around the site using a map and compass.  An ideal family event for all ages.
Time: 10.30am to 12.30pm. 
Meet: The Visitor Centre. 
Cost:  Adults £1.50, Concessions £1.00, Family £3.50.

Winter Wildlife Walk at Ryton Pools Country Park
Learn about the winter world at Ryton Pools Country Park, including winter tree identification and fascinating information about wildlife in the coldest months.
Time: 1.00pm to 3.00pm

Cost: Adults £1.50, Concessions £1.00, Family £3.50.

Saturday 31 January
Volunteer Willow Whacking Morning at Kingsbury Water Park
Come and join the Rangers to clear back encroaching willow around the Cliff Pool Bird Reserve, supporting National Wetlands Day. 
Time: 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Meet: Broomey Croft car park.
Cost:  FREE event.
