Recycle your Christmas cards into trees
As Christmas decorations start coming down today, residents are being called upon to think recycling when disposing of their cards.
The Woodland Trust has once again this year launched a Christmas Card Recycling Scheme, designed to turn Christmas cards into trees.
Thanks to public support last year, 73.6 million cards were collected throughout Britain, and in the 12 years that the scheme has been running, more than 600 million cards have been recycled nationally. This has resulted in the Woodland Trust being able to plant 141,000 trees.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “I’m pleased to see that the Woodland Trust are once again running their recycling scheme this year.
"Recycling Christmas cards is a very simple way everyone can cut down their festive waste and make a positive contribution to tackling climate change.”
A number of stores are participating in the scheme and WHSmith, Tesco, TK Maxx and Marks & Spencer stores in Warwickshire will provide collection bins for cards at stores throughout this month.
