Griff site investment

After three decades without investment the Government has awarded Warwickshire County Council more than £1 million to help rebuild the Griff Caravan Site near Nuneaton.

Communities Minister Iain Wright announced the successful bidders for funding from the Gypsy and Traveller Sites Grant in 2009/10, which is to provide new pitches and to reduce unauthorised camping.

The funding will enable local authorities and registered social landlords to provide new authorised pitches whose residents will pay rent, council tax and other utility bills.

The Government awarded £1.1 million for the Griff site and plans for the rebuild show pitches for 25 mobile homes, all with parking for two cars and a caravan.

There will also be a children’s play area, secure entrance barrier and CCTV system. A separate building will contain the site manager’s office, a community room, store, kitchen and toilet for the disabled.

In awarding the successful schemes the Minister said they have been assessed by independent consultants and considered by Regional Assemblies.
The works in Nuneaton also come after the recent Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment for Warwickshire, which has identified additional 163 pitches within Warwickshire, 26 in Warwick, 34 in Stratford Upon Avon, 25 in Nuneaton, 51 in Rugby and 17 in North Warwickshire.
