Warwickshire Libraries make number one

Warwickshire libraries are amongst the Top 10 most used in England, according to figures released by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Not only that, in the County Council category they are the most used of all, in top place.

The DCMS has changed the way it assesses library performance to take in not only actual visitors and borrowers but people who use online and outreach library services as well. The new system also takes into account whether library-users surveyed felt they benefited from their real or virtual visits.

The DCMS survey found that nearly 55% of adults had used Warwickshire library services in the past 12 months, making it the top-scoring county. The overall figures, including city and unitary authorities, placed Warwickshire in the Top 10.

Ayub Khan, Head of Libraries (Strategy) for Warwickshire, said: “It is wonderful to have some good news to report during these gloomy economic times. We want to say a big thank you to all our staff and customers for making us the top performing county library service in the country.”

Though delighted with the top spot, Ayub said there was no room for complacency: “Our new vision for libraries will help us move forward and make sure our services are even more relevant to modern-day lives and lifestyles.”
