Makeover for shopkeepers

Shopkeepers in the Queens Road area of Nuneaton are enjoying a makeover for their businesses thanks to a new project.

The local businessmen and women are benefitting from a joint initiative developed by Warwickshire County Council, working in partnership with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Business Link West Midlands.

Thanks to the scheme retailers in Queens Road, Arbury Road and the surrounding area have been offered both grant funding towards physical improvements to their shops and business support (at no charge to themselves).

A number of shops have taken advantage of this scheme and have now completed the improvements to their premises.

EasyFit Wardrobes on Arbury Road are one such business. They have installed new shop windows and additional security measures.

Elaine Shepherd, owner of EasyFit Wardrobes, said: “The grant enabled us to have a whole new shop front at our showroom in Arbury Road. This was a much-needed update to our building and it was made possible by the scheme. We are grateful for the help we have received.”

In Queens Road, a £100,000 programme of environmental improvements funded by the Regional Development Agency, Advantage West Midlands, has complemented the business support and shop improvement scheme.

These improvements including new paving, street furniture and planting and were completed at the end of last year.

Cllr Chris Saint, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: “This project is a great example of a number of different organisations working together to benefit the local community and bring about regeneration.”
