Proposed changes to grammar school admissions
Warwickshire County Council, in conjunction with Ashlawn School, Rugby High School and Lawrence Sheriff School, is currently carrying out a consultation exercise regarding admission arrangements to the grammar schools in Rugby.
A decision by the Schools Adjudicator in October 2008 requires the Admission Authorities to review the arrangements for admission to selective schools in the Rugby area.
The proposed new arrangements will give priority to children living within east Warwickshire - the area served by Avon Valley, Bilton and Ashlawn Schools. The previous ‘circle’, which encompassed parts of Southam, surrounding villages, Baginton, Weston under Wetherley, and parts of Coventry, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire will be replaced by the new priority area if the proposal is approved.
Details of the arrangements can be found on Warwickshire County Council’s website http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/consultation
Comments can be sent in writing or by email to the Admissions Service at admissions@warwickshire.gov.uk or to Lawrence Sheriff School by Friday 6 March at the latest. Responses to Rugby High School should be submitted by Friday 13 February.
The council is seeking representations on the boundary of the proposed priority area, in particular relating to whether any other specific areas should be included.
