Councillors turn spotlight on library services
Warwickshire County Council’s Adult and Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee has convened a select committee meeting to discuss proposals to transform Warwickshire’s Library Service.
The select committee, to be held at 10am on February 11 at Shire Hall in Warwick, will hear evidence from several County Council officers on the proposals, which include the co-location of library services within community locations; the introduction of self-service technology; the introduction of charges for library computers; and the introduction of book collection and drop-off points.
The committee will also consider customer usage of libraries, satisfaction with the services on offer, views of library staff, and best practice from around the country.
Councillor Frank McCarney, Chair of Warwickshire County Council’s Adult and Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee, said: “We recognise that demand and use of library services is changing and want to ensure that the proposals put forward effectively meet the needs of local residents without detriment to the main essence of the Library Service which is the provision of books.”
Evidence collected during the select committee will form part of the consultation currently taking place on the Library Service Transformation, which will be presented to the County Council’s Cabinet in May this year.
If members of the public wish to attend the committee meeting, they should contact Louise Denton, Overview and Scrutiny Officer, on 01926 412630.
