‘Your town, your choice’ Old Town

People living in Old Town, Leamington will have an opportunity to take part in a week of community events called ‘Your town, your choice’.

The week has been organised by many partners including Warwickshire County Council, Warwick District Council and Warwickshire Police and will run from Monday 16 to Saturday 21 February 2009.

The aim of ‘Your town, your choice’ is to find out and address any issues that concern residents, visitors and businesses; celebrate effective partnership working; and also promote inter-generational and multi-cultural activities.

During the week there will be Youth activities, skills projects, general health and safety advice, drugs and alcohol information, free health checks, fire safety presentations and Neighbourhood Watch to name only a few. There will also be opportunities to have a ‘cuppa with a copper’ – as well as a chance to help with a general tidy up of the area.

Events will be held at various locations in Old Town including Shrubland Street Community Primary School, Bath Place Community Venture at Bath Place, and the Westbury Centre on Westlea Road.

Cllr Richard Hobbs, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, said: “This event provides a great opportunity to have your say and make a real difference to the area of Old Town, as well as promote a sense of community spirit.”

Inspector Robin Clifton from Warwickshire Police said: “Warwickshire Police always strives to work in partnership with other agencies and we are thrilled to get this project started.

“I hope this will be something we can roll out to other areas and really involve the public with how their public services are delivered.”

Cllr Felicity Bunker, Communities Portfolio Holder at Warwick District Council, said: “ Working with our partners should mean we can achieve better value for our scarce resources.  This is an opportunity to listen to our residents and find out what is important for them. “
