Warwickshire receives jobs boost

Warwickshire County Council’s portfolio holder for economic development has welcomed news that up to 100 jobs are to be created in South Warwickshire over the coming months with a further 140 anticipated in Nuneaton.

Cllr Chris Saint was speaking after the announcement that the Agriculture and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB) is to move the base of its operation to Stoneleigh Park, with the assistance of Warwickshire Investment Partnership, over the coming months.  Job opportunities across many disciplines will be available between now and mid-summer.

The announcement follows news that 140 positions will be created in Nuneaton at RS Components which has had to restructure its workforce and move around 140 jobs to its unit in Bermuda Park.

Cllr Chris Saint said:  “The creation of these jobs in the county is testament to the vast amount of work that the county council has done over the years in creating an infrastructure in Warwickshire which is conducive to business.

“It has meant that there are viable commercial alternatives for businesses who are struggling elsewhere in the country and makes us more robust here in Warwickshire to face the difficult economic challenges.”

The jobs announcement came shortly after the number of visits received by a webpage added to the County Council website offering specific advice on how to cope with the recession was made public.

Launched on January 26, the site received over 2,200 visits in its first week from individuals seeking a range of advice from dealing with money and what to do in the event of redundancy through to support for local businesses in cutting their costs and getting started.

Whilst regretting the circumstances causing people to visit the site, Cllr Saint was pleased that the site had helped so many people.  He said:  “This website offers a good deal of support and advice to help residents of Warwickshire withstand the worst effects of the economic downturn and to be in a strong position when the tide is reversed.”
