Bwengu book sale is a page turner
More than three hundred pounds has been raised to help children in Africa thanks to a books sale supported by Warwickshire’s Youth Offending Service and Rugby Library.
It was held last weekend (Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February) to raise money for the Bwengu Project, which was setup in 2006 by part-time Youth Offending Service sessional worker Sue Melia and her husband Tony.
Thousands of used books were donated to the sale – which was supported by YOS staff, their friends and family - and the charity will use the proceeds to buy new books for children in Bwengu, Malawi, one of Africa’s poorest countries.
Sue Melia, project organiser, said: “A fantastic amount of money has been raised and I would like to thank everyone who supported the project last weekend. It will allow us to buy new books for the children of Bwengu and will help increase their life chances.”
Heather Shilling, Operations Manager (Interventions) for the Youth Offending Service, said: “We are very pleased to have been involved in the project again this year and with the amount of money raised to buy new books for Bwengu and we hope it will really make a difference.”
