Considerate parking could save lives

Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service has been highlighting the dangers of inconsiderate parking in Leamington, as part of the ‘Your town, your choice’ campaign.

Crews regularly carry out visual audits along key routes to ensure emergency vehicles can pass through should they need to without obstruction from people parking inconsiderately on narrow streets or on double yellow lines.

An appliance from Leamington and a Warwickshire Police patrol car visited a number of residential areas to warn of the potential consequences of crews being delayed in an emergency situation.

Watch Manager Mark Allen said: “We understand parking is an issue in some areas but inconsiderate or illegal parking can have consequences should emergency vehicles need to get through.

“So it is essential that you ensure your vehicle isn’t blocking the road because one day it could be you who needs to call 999. “

A spokesperson from Warwickshire Police said: “Police remind residents that where there are offences of willful and unnecessary obstruction on a public road, £30 Fixed Penalty Notices can be issued.”
