Scaling new heights to tackle bullying in Warwickshire
Over 50 volunteers gave their support to Warwickshire’s campaign against bullying, by abseiling down King’s House in Bedworth.
The event was organised by Warwickshire’s Anti-bullying partnership to raise awareness of all the work carried out around the county, to launch the new anti-bullying poster, and to re-launch the text2talk support service for young people.
Participants - who included teachers, police officers and young people from across the county - were given a safety briefing by abseiling experts Pinnacle Challenge, before lowering themselves seven floors from the roof of the Warwickshire County Council building to the street below.
Professionals from a range of support services were providing visitors with information and advice, whilst they looked skyward.
Hugh Disley, Head of the Youth Division at Warwickshire County Council, was one of the brave participants taking part. He said: “It was a great experience abseiling seven floors and everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
“The anti-bullying partnership do a wonderful job and I was pleased to be amongst those offering their support.”
Rachel Evans, Warwickshire Anti-bullying co-ordinator, said: “The event was a fantastic success and we had lots of visitors offering their support to those taking up the challenge, despite the cold weather.
“I would like to offer my thanks to everyone involved who helped raise awareness of the work we do in Warwickshire to tackle bullying.”
