Last chance for residents to have their say!

Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service are reminding residents that this is their last chance to have their say on how it serves the local community, as part of the consultation for its Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP).

Since April 2003 every Fire and Rescue Authority has been required to produce a local IRMP that helps the authority to reduce risk to the people within their communities.

The IRMP 2007/10 helps the service to assess local risk to life and shows where best to focus its resources to tackle these risks and improve the safety of all residents across Warwickshire. The plan also helps to identify ways in which the authority can work in partnership with neighbouring authorities and other agencies to deliver improved public safety.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service aims to achieve a number of key targets and goals as part of the IRMP Action Plan for 2009/10. These include:

* Strategic Review (Operational, Performance and VFM)
To consider previous work/research undertaken to inform a strategic review of the Fire and Rescue Service. The aim being to identify options for improving service delivery, performance improvement and value for money outcomes.

* Integrated Risk Management Plan (Community Risk Management / Narrowing the Gaps)
The current Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP) covers the period 2007-10 and needs to be updated to cover the years 2011-14.· Utilise an integrated approach and to include all relevant stakeholders to develop a rolling 3 year IRMP for the community of Warwickshire, which will identify all risks and prioritised actions.

* Organisational and Operational Assessment (Operational, Performance, Health and Safety and VFM)
To consider and plan for an independent organisational and operational assessment during 2010-11 in line with the requirements of the Comprehensive Area Assessment and the Operational Assessment toolkit frameworks.

The IRMP Action Plan for 2009/10 has a four-week consultation period and the service welcomes residents’ views on the key priorities of the directorate outlined above.

County Fire Officer, Paul Fuller said:
“The integrated risk management plan plays a key role in how, we as a fire service use our resources, which is why I would urge residents to take this opportunity to have their say on how and where they feel resources should be used. Views are encouraged from all members of the community.”

Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, Cllr Richard Hobbs said:
“I hope that residents from across Warwickshire will take full advantage of this opportunity by getting online and expressing their views. It is also a great opportunity for residents to learn more about the breath of work carried out by the fire service, including the schools programme and the Young Firefighters Association.”

The deadline for consultation is on Friday 13th March 2009. So don’t delay – have your say and log onto http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/irmp
