Take care with candles
Warwickshire County Council’s Fire & Rescue Service are warning of the potential dangers of lit candles following a call out to a recent incident in Stratford.
A candle left unattended on a windowsill in a property on Birmingham Road set curtains alight resulting in a serious blaze on which caused a high degree of damage on Tuesday night.
This has led the Fire and Rescue Service to urge people to take great care when using candles and tea lights. They advise not to leave them lit next to curtains and soft furnishings and to make sure they are used with suitable holders and stands to minimise the risk of them being knocked over.
Stratford-upon-Avon Fire Station Watch Manager, Mark Styzacker said: “Fortunately no one was harmed in the incident earlier this week but the outcome could easily have been very different.
"We want to warn people of the dangers of using candles carelessly, we hope they will heed this safety message in order to avoid similar incidences in future.”
