Think before you drink this St Patrick’s Day
Warwickshire’s Drug and Alcohol Action Team is reminding people to drink sensibly, when celebrating St Patrick’s Day later this month.
The day – Tuesday 17 March - remembers Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland, and is usually celebrated around the world with parades or wearing green but is often associated with increased alcohol consumption.
Warwickshire County Council is working in partnership with the local Primary Care Trusts, local service providers, Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire Probation Service and the District and Borough Councils as part of a joint Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy for the county.
The aim is to make sure communities and partnership agencies have a combined focus on reducing the harm caused by alcohol, making Warwickshire an even safer place to live, work and visit.
Cllr Richard Hobbs, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, said: “Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol may leave you with a hangover in the short term, but continuously over-indulging could have long-term health implications.
“We obviously want people to enjoy themselves during St Patrick’s Day celebrations but to do so sensibly and think before you drink.”
