Yee Haa - No Rogue Trader County

Cowboy Rogue Traders are not welcome in Warwickshire is the message from Warwickshire Trading Standards Service and Warwickshire Police.

Trading Standards Officers and Police Officers have joined forces to develop a new campaign to increase people’s awareness and protection from Doorstep Crime. The Yee Haa campaign will be rolled out to hot spot areas across the county from April 2009.

The Yee Haa campaign plays on the theme of Cowboy Traders. Residents in “hot-spot” areas will be issued with door stickers and information booklets following the theme of staying safe from cowboy traders. Street signage will reinforce the No Rogue Trader message and act as a warning to rogue traders that they will be reported if they attempt to trade in the area.

A Rapid Response Team is a crucial part of the campaign and residents are encouraged to “Suspect It Report It” to the Rapid Response Team.  A response will be made either in person or by phone to a report of a suspicious caller in an area. The aim of Suspect It Report It is to take the burden off residents to decide if a caller is genuine.

Warwickshire County Councillor Richard Hobbs, Portfolio Holder for Community Protection said “We want residents to look out for themselves, their neighbours, their community, if in any doubt Suspect It Report It. We know there are Rogue Traders out there but with this campaign we can stop them.

Mark Ryder, Head of Warwickshire Trading Standards explains “We want to make it clear to residents that it is our job to vet callers and we do not want them worrying about whether they should contact us or not, if in any doubt Suspect It Report It.

The Yee Haa campaign enables the rights of legitimate business to continue to cold call and the rights of residents to receive calls from legitimate traders are unaffected. Our job is to stop the Rogue Traders.
