Farewell celebrations for Josie!
Cook in Charge, Josie McDermott is retiring from Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service after 22 years of service.
Following in her mothers footsteps, Josie started her career at Leamington Fire Station in October 1986. Over the years Josie has catered for many service functions, her mince pies with brandy butter are legendary at the Annual Carol Service.
The two things you can guarantee about many of Josie’s sweets are they are delicious and once tasted, never forgotten!
On announcing her retirement Josie said: “My mother was a cook for 17 years in Leamington before she retired, so it was only natural that I followed in her footsteps. Together we have provided around 40 years service and I don’t think that any day has ever been the same.
“I have loved being working at Leamington Fire Station and will miss so many things when I go, it is like being part of a big family. I just hope that I am missed as much as my cooking!”
Technical Support Officer, Anita Wright said: “Josie has always looked after all the Fire Service personnel, particularly the crews, cooking their favourite dishes and keeping their dinner warm when they were called out on a job. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Josie – going that extra mile for her favourites!
“Not only will we miss her wonderful cooking, we will miss her great sense of humour, always enjoying a joke with her colleagues. We all wish Josie the best in her retirement and hope that she enjoys indulging in her favourite pastime – cooking!”
