New van voucher system
As a result of feedback from the people who use Warwickshire's nine Household Waste Recycling Centres, the county council has reviewed its policy on the kind of vehicles which can and cannot use the centres.
Changes include a new four voucher a year system, recognising that some people may now have what was previously considered a commercial vehicle as their only means of transport.
The new vehicle and trailer restrictions apply at all household waste recycling centres in Warwickshire (Grendon, Judkins, Shipston, Hunters Lane, Cherry Orchard, Princes Drive, Stockton, Burton Farm and Wellesbourne).
The restrictions are designed to tackle a range of issues, including the illegal disposal of commercial (trade) waste, which could otherwise cost Warwickshire County Council (therefore the Council Tax payer) more than £1 million a year.
Implementation of the scheme is also helping to reduce congestion, improve health and safety and increase recycling.
Full details can be found on the vehicle and trailer restriction policy webpage, including details of the new permit and voucher system to enable some residents to use vehicles otherwise excluded by the vehicle and trailer restrictions.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “We have reviewed our policy regarding the use of vans at Household Waste Recycling Centres after listening to feedback from local people.
“We want to meet the needs of local people, who want a clean and easy to use recycling centre to dispose of their waste, while also recognising that we cannot simply throw our doors open to vans and traders.
“These are after all ‘household’ waste recycling centres, there are other legitimate means for disposing of trade waste and I’m pleased to say that the vast majority of our local businesses follow this route.”
The new policy came into force at the beginning of this month and for all the latest information and details of your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre visit http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/hwrc or http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/vehiclerestrictions
