Coleshill Parkway celebrates Civic Award
An innovative transport scheme in North Warwickshire, bringing together bus, car, train and other travel links to one location has won a Civic Award.
And to celebrate the award a plaque has been unveiled at the site of Coleshill Parkway by a host of civic dignitaries, including Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Cllr Martin Heatley, and the Mayor of North Warwickshire, Cllr Ray Payne.
More than 100 building owners, architects, construction companies and guests contested the Civic Awards, 2008, with Coleshill Parkway clinching the award for ‘Contribution to the Local Economy’.
Last held in 2005, the Civic Awards are designed to encourage the preservation and enhancement of historic buildings, promote public awareness of environmental heritage and recognise high standards of design and character in new developments
Chair of the Judging Panel, Councillor Mark Simpson, said “We were delighted at the interest the Award Scheme generated. The number and quality of entries received was excellent, making the job of judging the competition very difficult.”
Cllr Heatley said: “It is with great pride that we unveil this plaque, demonstrating the impact Coleshill Parkway has had on improving the local transport infrastructure and therefore the local economy.
“Thanks to the introduction of Coleshill Parkway we have taken hundreds of cars off the local roads. I’m delighted to see the Civic Awards recognising this achievement.”
