The Princess Royal honours Warwickshire firefighters

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal will be unveiling a dedication for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service at Bancroft Gardens, Stratford-Upon-Avon, on Friday 24 April 2009.

Her Royal Highness will be unveiling the dedication in her role as Patron of The Firefighters Memorial Charitable Trust. The dedication is to honour the lives of the four firefighters, Ashley Stephens, Darren Yates-Badley, John Averis and Ian Reid who tragically lost their lives in a fire at a vegetable packing plant in Atherstone-on-Stour on the 2 November 2007.

The Tribute also reflects the work of Firefighters from all across the United Kingdom and representatives from the UK Fire and Rescue Services will be attending the opening.

Warwickshire County Council and the Atherstone-on-Stour Firefighters Fund have jointly funded the dedication at Bancroft Gardens.

The tribute itself is set in a small amphitheatre, close to the River Avon.  In the gardens there will be a solid granite seating area engraved with pictures and words to celebrate the life and work of the four firefighters who lost their lives at Atherstone-On-Stour. Four lime trees, representing each life lost, will shade this area.

A large sundial will incorporate Caithness stone rubbings of the work of firefighters. Visitors to the site will be able to spend time making their own stone rubbings to take away as a memento of their visit.
