Residents urged to get on the electoral register

Residents in Warwickshire are being urged to use their chance to have a say and register to vote in the county council elections.

People not on the electoral register will need to apply by Tuesday 19 May.
For further information on getting onto the electoral register, log onto http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/elections or call Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council members services on 02476 376230.

There are currently just over 95,000 living in the borough who are aged 18 or over who are eligible to vote. The turnout at the last county council elections in 2005 was 60.25%, a figure made higher by its coinciding with a general election but county council officials are hoping for a high turnout on June 4.

David Carter, deputy returning officer at Warwickshire County Council, said: “Voting in the county council election is critical if you want to exercise your right to have a say in who controls important local services.

"These are services that everybody uses several times a day such as transport, education, community safety, care for older people, childcare centres, services for young people.  We urge people to make sure they are on the electoral register by the 19th May."
