Accolade for Nuneaton Sixth Form College
King Edward VI College in Nuneaton has become the first sixth form college in Coventry and Warwickshire to win the prestigious Investors in Careers quality award, with support from Connexions and Warwickshire County Council.
The college on King Edward Road has been recognised for the quality of its careers education and guidance programme in preparing students for future employment and higher education.
Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire, along with Warwickshire County Council’s 14-19 Area Partnership in North Warwickshire, supported the development of these programmes.
The award has involved a rigorous assessment process including two visits from an external assessor and extensive interviews with college staff, students and partners, and has been marked against legislative requirements and nationally agreed good practice.
Lynn Blackhurst, Assistant Principal (Student Support) at King Edward VI College, said: “We are extremely pleased with this award which recognises our commitment to ensuring students have the best possible start when heading in to higher education or employment.
“Our staff, students and partners have worked incredibly hard in the design, development and evaluation of these programmes, so this is a fantastic achievement.”
Graham Hollowell, head of Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire, said: “Projects like this help prepare students with the skills they need to progress in to the world of work or higher education.
”At a time of great turbulence in the economy, we need to do even more to prepare students for the next stage in their career. The support provided by colleges, Connexions and partners is invaluable in helping them to succeed.!”
