What's holding you back?

Adults across Warwickshire are being asked, 'What's holding you back when it comes to learning?’

Warwickshire County Council is supporting Adult Learners’ Week, a national campaign, which runs from 9-15 May and is urging adults from across the county to start a journey of learning which could transform their lives.

Now in its 18th year, Adult Learners’ Week is the UK’s largest festival of learning and is coordinated by NIACE (National Institute of Adult Continuing Education). It aims to inspire people to have to go - whether it is learning a new skill, learning for fun, or catching up on learning missed at school.

The county council’s Adult and Community Learning Service runs more than 50 different courses from digital photography to family history in community locations across Warwickshire.

In the current economic downturn the service is making a particular appeal to people who may have difficulty finding work to take advantage of a range of free programmes which could boost their employability.

The service runs a range of free ‘Skills for Life’ courses which can help you brush up on your maths, reading and IT which could help you get a better job, help your children with their homework, improve self confidence and make better decisions about things like money.

Jan Willows of Warwickshire County Council’s Adult and Community Learning Service said: "Don’t hold back when it comes to learning. Many people think about taking up a course but never get round to it because they feel they haven’t got the time or they didn’t do particularly well at school.  We want to make people aware that learning is so much more flexible these days and learning later in life can be fun and fulfilling."

Adult and Community Learning aims to support learners from all backgrounds to develop their knowledge and skills to achieve personal fulfilment through the provision of high quality learning in community locations across Warwickshire. Although there may be a fee for some of the courses, many are subsidised and in some cases they are free.
