Rugby Western Relief Road works progress
Work is progressing well on the £37m Rugby Western Relief Road, with a number of new developments underway.
As part of the Rugby Western Relief Road works Lawford Road is to close between Simms Flats and its junction with Paynes Lane over the last two weekends of May. These closures are required as the future works will include the demolition of the existing Lawford Road Bridge over the disused railway line and the construction of the new junction.
The closures will allow the tie-ins to a temporary road which will run along side the existing Lawford Road to be constructed. On completion of the tie-ins all traffic will be diverted from the existing route over the bridge to the temporary road. The moving of traffic from over the bridge to the temporary road will then allow the works to continue.
The dates of the closures to Lawford Road will be on the bank holiday weekend of the 23rd, 24th and 25th May and then again on the weekend of the 30th and 31st May. Pedestrian access will remain throughout the works.
The works are planned to cause as little disruption as possible to the residents and businesses on Paynes Lane and the affected section of Lawford Road. Access to Paynes Lane will be maintained from a westerly direction so traffic coming from Rugby Town Centre will have to use Bilton Lane and turn right at the Sheaf and Sickle Junction with Lawford Road
Meanwhile, anyone wanting a behind the scenes glimpse of the new relief road taking shape can book onto minibus tours by contacting Peter Bones of Warwickshire County Council on 01788 513125. They generally take place on a Tuesday morning and last about 1½ hours. Owing to the limited number of spaces available, a first come first served system is operated.
