Improved bus travel

Several villages in the south of Warwickshire are soon to enjoy improved and speedier bus travel thanks to a new service.

Warwickshire County Council has today announced that the contract to provide the 480 bus service between Shipston-on-Stour and Banbury has been awarded to Stagecoach.

The council provides financial support for the service which is currently operated by Geoff Amos Coaches.

Stagecoach is to connect this service with its existing 50 service providing a through service between Banbury, Shipston-on-Stour and Stratford upon Avon. The new service will be numbered 50A and provides additional travel opportunities for many communities on the two routes.

For example people from Alderminster, Newbold on Stour and Tredington will now be able to travel to Banbury without either travelling into Stratford or Shipston and changing buses. Equally people from the Oxfordshire villages of Broughton, the Tadmartons, Swalcliffe, and the Sibfords will now be able to travel to Stratford without travelling into Banbury or Shipston and changing buses. Bus users from Brailes can travel at the moment on Service 23 to Stratford but the journey time is around 58 minutes. By using the new Service 50A, the journey time will be reduced to around 40 minutes.

As a result the last day of operation for Service 480 will be Saturday, May 30. The new Service 50/50A will be commencing on Monday, June 1.
