UK choral expert comes to Warwick
A Warwickshire County Music Service group is looking forward to the chance to work with one of the UK's most respected young choral trainers next week.
On Saturday 16 May, the County Boys Choir will be taking part in a special one-off training day with James Davey, a well known conductor, choir trainer and choral education practitioner.
The session at Coten End School in Warwick was set up by the choir’s director Garry Jones to inspire the boys to new heights of excellence. The young choristers will be learning advanced singing techniques so that in the future they will be able to stand out amongst the best choirs in the country.
Throughout the day the boys will undertake a programme of activities to show them the right approach to belonging to a prestigious choir. They will also have a chance to work on some new repertoire which they will use for a forthcoming performance at Malvern Priory in July.
The boys are in good hands with Mr Davey whose credentials include winning Radio 3 Choir of the Year in 2006, working with the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, and regular involvement with BBC.
Speaking enthusiastically about the forthcoming event, Garry Jones said: “This training day will offer enormous value to all the boys and we are all really excited about the opportunity to train and perform with such an esteemed practitioner of music.
“So far, the boys’ appearances at the Symphony Hall, New College Oxford and the National Festival have all met with great acclaim but there is so much more to achieve for a young choir full of ambition and willingness to work towards higher goals.”
Due to the choir’s continued success the number of boys involved has swelled to well over 100 and Garry is now aiming for 200. Boys aged 8-14 with an interest in singing and performing are welcome to audition for the choir.
