Don’t forget Memories exhibition

Don’t miss the last chance to see the Memories Community Art Exhibition at Nuneaton Library on Saturday 30 May.

The exhibition is the result of an art project involving older people at a Nuneaton Care Home and a group of local adults with learning disabilities. The project was funded through Warwickshire County Council’s Social Care Arts Fund.

The participants were encouraged to share their personal recollections and learnt photography, textile work and ceramics along the way. They made many friendships and organisers say that the arts reminiscence project acted as a stimulus, triggering memories and improving personal development.

The partnership project involved Active8, a group of adult artists with learning disabilities and six older people from Caldwell Grange Care Home. Each artist produced a photographic self portrait and created their own intricate frame for the vibrant collage which is on display at Nuneaton Library.

Rachel Flowers, who works with the people from Active8 said: “We wanted to enable people to experience a range of opportunities within the project including photography, textiles and ceramics. It’s been a good opportunity to share skills and it has mutual benefits.”

Catch the exhibition at the Library and Information Centre on Church Street, Nuneaton, which is open from 8.30am to 6pm on Friday 29 May and from 9am to 4pm on Saturday 30 May.

Active8 and Caldwell Grange are part of Warwickshire County Council’s service provision for adults with learning disabilities and older people living in the Nuneaton area.
