Students debut in a Midsummer’s Night Dream

Over 50 children from schools in south Warwickshire will be performing one of Shakespeare’s most popular works - A Midsummer’s Night Dream this Saturday (6 June).

The young people aged between five and thirteen have been rehearsing for the play since they auditioned in March 2009.

Pupils from Henley High School, Henley Primary School, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Ferncumbe C of E Primary School, Wootton Wawen C of E Primary School will all be taking part in the performance, which takes place at the Guildhall Gardens in Henley in Arden at 2.30pm on Saturday.

A second performance will run at 7.30pm on Friday 12 June at the brand new amphitheatre at Henley High School.

Community Arts Officer, Hayley Pope said: “We are hoping the opening performance on Saturday will show parents and carers just how hard the children have been working.

"The ages range from 5 to 13 and so getting everyone together has been a big task.  The show provides a real mix with singing, dancing and drama, which means that there should be something for everyone to enjoy.

“I would like to thank all of those people involved in getting costumes and scenery together, especially Alcester Grammar School who have provided a number of the costumes for the show.”

Extended Services Co-ordinator Janet Strugnell said: “This is a great project and I am really looking forward to seeing the opening performance on Saturday.  All of the young people involved have worked really hard and it will be nice to see the end result of that.”

Henley Community Arts established the performing arts project in partnership with Warwickshire County Councils Extended Services to provide young people within the local community the opportunity to work with pupils from other schools and to learn new skills.
