Charity coffers swell thanks to council staff
A Warwickshire-based charity has received a cash boost thanks to council staff discarding their ties and suits.
However, there was no sudden exposing of flesh, the fundraiser was a part of a monthly ‘dress down day’, where staff can come to work in more casual attire.
And thanks to the generosity of workers a cheque for more than £150 was handed over to The Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
This is just the latest charity effort from workers in the county council’s Resources Directorate, says Matthew Bradbury, Improvement and Development Manager.
He said: “I’m delighted to hand over this latest cheque to the Jennifer Trust. The county counil’s Resources Directorate has been committed to fundraising in recent years, raising £4,067 in the last year alone, and £9,000 over the last three years.
“There always seems to be something going on including monthly Dress Down Fridays, cake sales, rugby matches and a train roulette to raise money for charities such as Cancer Research, Myton Hospice and Warwickshire Fire Fighters Families Fund.
“The Stratford-based charity the Jennifer Trust is an extremely worthwhile cause, and is the only national charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people affected by SMA, investing in essential research into causes and treatment and eventually finding a cure for the condition.”
Richard Green, Chief Executive for The Jennifer Trust, said: “We are grateful to local organisations such as Warwickshire County Council for choosing to support our work. The money raised will not only help to fund our vital services, but also help us raise awareness of SMA and The Jennifer Trust’s work.”
