Young people get tips on money management

For the first time, Warwickshire Education Business Partnership will be teaming up with a school in Coventry to deliver an event to show pupils how to manage their money.

The Personal Finance Day at Grace Academy on Wigston Road in Coventry will give year seven pupils their first introduction to managing their personal finances and looking after their money.

During the morning the students will be involved in a number of activities around topics including, the value of money, banking, saving, protecting their money, debt and credit.

In the afternoon, they will use all the knowledge they have gained from the morning session to develop a marketing campaign to promote the importance of personal finance and looking after your money aimed at future year seven pupils.  The practical afternoon session will involve the students in making moneyboxes, leaflets and posters as well as presenting their ideas to a panel of judges.

The Coventry, formerly the Coventry Building Society, will be supporting the day and representatives from the organisation will deliver an activity on banking and saving and act as facilitators throughout the event.

At the end of the day students will have a clearer understanding of financial terminology and how to look after and plan their finances.

Tracey Powell Area Co-ordinator for Warwickshire Education Business Partnership has organised the day.  She said: “Personal finance is a very topical subject in our current economic climate.  This event will benefit students by introducing financial management and teaching them about how financial decisions can impact on their future.”
