Youngsters look to 2009 and Beyond
Over a thousand young people from local schools are descending on Coombe Country Park from today until Friday to take part in an event to raise awareness of sustainability and environmental issues.
Schools from across Coventry and Warwickshire are attending the three day event ‘2009 and Beyond’ at Coombe Country Park, near Coventry.
Pupils are kept busy with a series of workshops each aiming to encourage the children to think about the impact their everyday lives have on people and the planet, and give some simple ideas for making a positive difference.
The aim of the event is to offer fun, interactive and thought provoking workshops that will encourage children to make positive changes to their lifestyles.
Theatre groups, local authority officers, environmental organisations and performers entertain the children in this eighth annual event, covering themes including waste, food, water, trade, health, transport and wildlife.
The event is organised in partnership by Warwickshire County Council, Coventry City Council, Rugby Borough Council, North Warwickshire Borough Council and Action 21.
Hannah Collett, 2009 and Beyond event coordinator, said: “This annual event gets excellent feedback each year from both the teachers and young people who attend.
"We are delighted to be working with so many partner organisations to enable local youngsters to get out of the classroom and to learn about environmental issues in a fun and interesting way.”
