Parents get a lesson in drug awareness
Parents of secondary school children in Warwick are being invited to an open evening on drugs awareness.
The session, which has been organised by Warwickshire County Council’s (WCC) Extended Services in partnership with Aylesford School, Myton School and Round Oak secondary school, will take place on Thursday 25 June between 7.30 and 8.30pm.
Parents from the three schools have been invited to the open session to find out more about the signs and symptoms of substance misuse, drug names, street names and their availability, what different drugs look like and where to go for help or to find out more about drugs.
Tony Farquharson from Warwickshire’s Young Persons Substance Misuse Team will be talking to parents directly about the real issues they may face. There will also be a chance to meet and speak to representatives from the schools health advisor, WCC family information service, the police and community support officers.
Extended Services Co-ordinator, Sharon Hall said: “This is a great opportunity for parents to come into the school and find out more about the kind of information their children are learning during their PSHE (personal, social and health education) lessons. The session will be interactive, so that parents can ask any questions they may have as well as ones they think they may be asked.
“They will also be able to find out more about the work of extended services and the range of activities available in schools in their area.”
