Shire Hall flies the flag for Armed Forces Day

Warwickshire County Council has joined the list of counties who are flying a special flag celebrating Armed Forces Day.

The Armed Forces Day Flag will be flown to mark the build up to the first ever national Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June and will then be presented to the Queens Own Hussars on 9 July at a special homecoming parade for soldiers who have served in Iraq.

The flag-raising officially commenced a week of celebrations in honour of our Armed Forces with homes and businesses invited to join the celebrations.

Veterans Minister Kevan Jones said:  “Our armed forces make huge personal sacrifices to defend the UK and their efforts deserve support and recognition.  It would be very special for them to see homes, businesses and councils across the country showing their support by flying the flag.

“The purpose of Armed Forces day is to celebrate what our veterans have already achieved, what our current personnel continue to achieve and the opportunities the Armed Forces offer our future generations.  The Armed Forces Day Flag sends out a clear message that will be appreciated by all our service personnel, past present and future.”

Warwickshire’s Lord Lieutenant Martin Dunne said:  “Warwickshire has a strong tradition of support for the armed forces.  I am delighted that, by flying the flag, the County Council and the District and Borough Councils within the county are all honouring the men and women, past and present, of our Armed Forces."
