Warwickshire schools’ international embrace
Warwickshire County Council hosted the second International Schools Award (ISA) ceremony last week.
The high profile event on Thursday 18 June was hosted by Clinton Primary School, the 2008 recipient of Warwickshire International Primary School of the Year.
The ceremony gave formal recognition to a number of schools that attained the full ISA award in 2008 and Hughie Todner MBE presented Hughie Todner memorial trophies to the Warwickshire International primary and secondary schools of the year.
This year the prestigious awards went to St Paul’s Primary School in Nuneaton and Kineton High School, A Specialist Sports College for their schools’ outstanding international engagement.
The ISA is an accreditation scheme for curriculum-based international work in schools. All schools must evidence sustainable international links and be working toward the award by 2012.
It is awarded to schools which are fully engaged internationally and have embedded an international dimension into the ethos of the school and its teaching and learning. It also addresses the Community Cohesion agenda and develops essential skills in our young people as citizens of a global society and economy.
Judith Young International Development Officer for the county council said: “In Warwickshire we are fully committed, at the highest level, to supporting our schools in developing internationally.
"This is demonstrated in our support of international continuous professional development opportunities for staff, formal links with China and India and in our many European and global multilateral projects and links.
“We would like to see all Warwickshire schools achieving the ISA and the county council will fully support them to do so.”
