Wedding first for historic Warwick Castle

Warwickshire County Council’s Registration Services conducted its first civil marriage at Warwick Castle on Friday 19 June 2009 for a couple who won their wedding in a radio competition.

Warwick Castle applied for its licence earlier this year, making it one of over 80 licensed venues in the county offering a variety of settings, facilities and choice. Warwickshire’s approved premises licences enable the venue to host all civil ceremonies currently offered by the Registration Service. These include, marriage ceremonies, civil partnership ceremonies, renewal of marriage vows and naming ceremonies

Warwickshire Superintendent Registrar, Sylvia Benton, said:
“We are delighted to be conducting the first civil marriage at Warwick Castle, it is a beautiful venue and one which we are proud to add to the list of approved licensed premises in Warwickshire.  We would like to say congratulations to Laura Bailey and Paul Murray who won the wedding and a honeymoon in the Heart FM wedding competition. We hope that it was a truly memorable day!”

Sue Warwick, General Manager at Warwick Castle, said: “We were so happy to be able to share Paul and Laura’s special day and we hope that they had a fantastic day at the Castle. Paul and Laura’s wedding also spells the start of something very special for Warwick Castle too, as we hope to become one of the nation’s top wedding destinations. We wish the happy couple the best of luck for the future.”

Sylvia Benton and Sharron Freeland conducted the ceremony at 5pm on Friday 19 June in the State Dining Room at Warwick Castle.
