Warwickshire Boys to sing in Elgar county
A Warwickshire County Music Service choir will be rounding off a year of successes with their second annual summer concert.
Fresh out of training with renowned BBC choral trainer and conductor James Davey, Warwickshire’s County Boys Choir will showcase results at the concert in Worcestershire Saturday 11 July.
The performance is taking place at Priory Church in Great Malvern where the boys will introduce their repertoire of songs - including Panis Angelicus (Cesar Franck), Elijah Rock (Spiritual), The Heron (Polwart/Hunt) and their popular favourite ‘You Raise me Up’ (Lovland and Graham) - to a Worcestershire audience.
The choir’s musical director Garry Jones of the County Music Service chose the Priory Church as a venue for two reasons, he said: “The acoustics at the church are superb and ideal to show off the boys talents and travelling to the Malverns it would give the boys an exciting day out with the chance to explore an area that Elgar the great British composer grew up in.
“The boys are really looking forward to the event and the chance to perform their songs to a new audience. I am hoping that Elgar’s influence will inspire the boys to even greater heights.”
The Priory Church concert starts at 7pm and runs until 8.15pm with tickets at £5 for adults and £3.50 concessions.
The concert will be the last performance of the summer term but the boys return in the autumn with a packed programme of events, including a performance at the Warwick Arts Centre’s Butterworth Hall.
Any boys aged between 8-14 years with an interest in singing and performing are welcome to audition for the choir. For more information please contact the Warwickshire County Music Service on 01926 742630 or visit http://www.musicforlife.net
