Shipston Eco-Day

An array of eco-issues are to be tackled by youngsters attending Shipston schools as they come together today for a day packed with environmental activities.

Shipston High is playing host to the Eco-Day, which has been arranged in conjunction with Warwickshire County Council, to help drive home the message that it’s not too tough to reduce, recycle and reusue.

The day will also support the eco programmes of local schools, and allow adults and children from different schools to work together on environmental projects.

Year 5 pupils will be taking part in the day, which gets underway with a registration in the morning, and then includes a variety of workshops around science, English, textiles and group work.

Then following the day of activities parents are being invited to check out the work themselves during a ‘stay and view’ session from 4pm to 4.30pm.

All the work from the day is then being displayed in various community venues in the Shipston area, including village halls and churches.

Warwickshire County Council’s Extended Services Co-ordinator Caroline Larson said: "This is a great opportunity for parents and children from local primary schools to find out more about caring for the environment looking at how we recycle and reuse waste.

“As well as promoting recycling, the event will also provide the children with the opportunity to look around their local secondary school and help them to build links with the school for future learning opportunities. This is one of the key aims for extended services and I am pleased that we have been able to achieve it in such a fun way."

The day is also being supported by other county council environmental service including WEAVE and Eco-Schools.
