Young people set for weekend of positive activities

An action-packed weekend of activities is on offer for young people in Nuneaton thanks to Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People (PaYP) programme.

On Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July, PaYP and partners will be running a number of free ‘Positive activities’ for 8 to 19-year-olds between 4pm and 7pm in and around the Haunchwood Road area of Stockingford.

Art, computer workshops, music and games are being offered at the Vale View POD by Positive about Young People; while the Nuneaton and Bedworth Leisure Trust are running sports activities, relationship and sexual health information, and alcohol education amongst others at the Vale View multi-use games area.

A Connexions Personal Advisor will also be on hand to give information and guidance to young people if they need it.

Warwickshire County Council’s Youth Service is holding a separate event in Park House between 10am and 4pm over the same weekend, including ‘have-a-go’ sessions and café facilities amongst other activities. Bedworth Youth Centre is running a Friday night and Saturday afternoon programme along similar lines.

Two more weekend sessions are planned over the summer break including July 24 to 25 and August 7 to 8 at the same locations.

Paul Thompson, Operations Manager for Positive about Young People, said: “This programmes gives young people the chance to do something positive and fun in their community, whilst widening their educational and social skills at the same time.

“We hope the positive activities will be enjoyed by all and would encourage 8 to 19-year-olds to come and have a look at what is on offer.”
